Capturing The Digital Identity

In the upcoming exhibition “Justin Bower: Capturing The Digital Identity,” renowned American artist Justin Bower presents an innovative fusion of traditional painting and a contemporary engagement with the digital sphere. Bower’s works engage substantively with the intersection of human beings and technology, deliberately pushing beyond the boundaries of conventional portrait painting. He uses the canvas as a reflective surface for the pervasive impact of digitisation on individual identity. The abstraction of form and the dynamic colour palette in Bower’s work serve not only to capture outward appearance, but also to evoke the invisible networks and structures of digital reality. Technology functions here not merely as a tool, but as an integral component of the creative process. Each painting in the exhibition can be understood as an exploratory study that illustrates the multilayered nature of human emotion in the digital age. By employing technology as a means of expression, Bower moves beyond traditional definitions of portraiture to create a contemporary narrative of the digital soul. The exhibition invites viewers not only to appreciate the aesthetic complexity of the works, but also to consider deeper questions about the effects of digitisation on our self-perception and self-representation. Bower’s art challenges audiences to reposition themselves at the interface of human and machine, and to reflect on the transformative power of technology within art.

The exhibition will present ten new oil paintings created specifically for this show. As a special highlight, in addition to Bower’s signature large-scale works, smaller pieces will also be exhibited. We are happy to share further details on available sizes upon request.
